I still remember how excited I was when I got this email here
wow.. I can’t believe it, I will be going to Stanford and Silicon Valley! Alhamdulillah alhamdulillah 😀
I heard about the opportunity from a post in Kompas and decided to give it a try because they offer scholarship opportunities for Indonesian students. I got the announcement that I have been accepted to the event, along with my junior at school, Dennis, but sadly we were both did not get the scholarship, as there were 22 Indonesian students applied and only 2 was granted the scholarship.
I got quite confused at first whether to continue on participating or not, obviously due to financial matters. But we got the word of encouragement and support from Mr. Lukito Edi Nugroho, the Head Department of EE&IT UGM, that we must consider this as a “long-term investment” for the future and must struggle to reach it.
So here I am struggling for the stepping stone of my dreams. Me and Dennis are looking for companies/donors who are willing to sponsor our trip to Stanford University to attend the ASES Stanford Summit 2012. The expense is around US$2000 for each therefore US$4000 covering return trip and registration fee for both of us.
How will the donors benefit from this?
Well, I think this event will give us a lot of new interesting insights on business innovation and entrepreneurship. I feel that a lot of students in Yogyakarta especially UGM are very interested in entrepreneurship especially in IT. I believe they are keen to hear our stories about Silicon Valley and the Stanford Summit. So we are planning to conduct a sharing session. Through this event we can:
- Wear T-Shirts with the company’s logo
- Make a banner with the company’s logo
- Show a company video in the session
- Other than that I can write in my blog, twitter and facebook about the event with mentioning the company sponsors
- Dennis, who is running a game development startup, Amagine Interactive, said that the sponsor can be mentioned/take part in his next to be released game
- …and other things depend on what the company donors request
Why do I really want to attend this event? The answer is that I am just very excited to visit Silicon Valley and learn the culture, attitude, atmosphere and technology advances that made them successful and take as much as possible back to inspire everyone else. I also want to promote Indonesia especially Jogjakarta with its potentials in entrepreneurship and IT. The last ASOCIO ICT Summit 2011 I attended, gave me the impression of a positive hope about Jogja.

- Alhamdulillah, me and Dennis have both already got US Visa for short term travels
- We have started booking for flights through a travel agent (cheaper than online booking) but we must pay for the ticket soon 🙁
